What should I bring?
General information
You must be prepared in order to have a good, lasting impression on employers. By gathering these essential items, we ensure you will be ready to network.
Several copies of your resume
You will be handing these out to employers throughout the fair. Resumes should be printed on clean white paper and not wrinkled or damaged in any way. Scroll down to see our tips for creating a great resume.
Pens and a folder
Employers may hand out applications and business cards at the fair. Be prepared to fill out any forms.
Name tag
If you have a Georgian College issued name tag, it may be beneficial to wear it to help employers distinguish you. Click here to purchase one from Georgian Stores (make sure to order it a few weeks in advance).
Are there interviews?
General information
In previous years, employers have conducted interviews on site the day of the event. Being ready for an interview will boost your confidence and increase your effectiveness. If you have a specific employer in mind, find out about the organization and the job you’re applying for. This will demonstrate to the interviewer that you are motivated and keenly interested in the position.
Practice
Practicing what you’re going to say and how you’re going to say it will help you speak confidently about your skills and accomplishments. It’s a good idea not to memorize what you want to say. Instead, figure out which key points you want to focus on. The interview is also your opportunity to ask questions. List 3 things you want to know about the job or the organization, and practice asking questions about them. Make sure you couldn’t be expected to know the answers from your research. Leave questions about salary, vacations or other benefits until after you receive a job offer.
Present
How you present yourself in the interview—your appearance, attitude and body language—is vitally important. It’s normal to be anxious but acting as if you’re confident, even when you aren’t, can have a positive effect on both you and the interviewer.
Participate
The interview is also your chance to show your positive attitude and your communication skills. They will also give you great practice for future interviews.
